Today, Sleater-Kinney unveiled their latest single, “Untidy Creature,” accompanied by a music video directed by Nick Pollet. The song serves as the closing track of their upcoming 11th LP, Little Rope, which is set to release on Jan. 19 via Loma Vista.

The video showcases Australian freediver Amber Bourke holding her breath in a bathtub as Corin Tucker’s poignant lyrics unfold echoing, “But here’s too much here that’s unspoken/ And there’s no tomorrow in sight/ Could you love me if I was broken/ There’s no going back tonight.” The song builds and builds as Bourke remains submerged until the 3:13 mark – when she finally inhales a crescendo reaches its climax in perfect unison.

In a post on Instagram, the band explained the video concept was crafted to align with the album’s overarching themes of uncertainty, restlessness, and urgency. Additionally, portraying a woman holding her breath in a bathtub symbolizes the complexities of seeking escape, disappearance, absolution, or a simple moment of quiet and reprieve.

Little Rope consists of 10 tracks and was recorded at Flora Recording and Playback in Portland, Ore., under the guidance of producer John Congleton. This project marks Sleater-Kinney’s return to original music since 2021’s Path of Wellness.
