Liam Gallagher and John Squire, the guitarist of The Stone Roses, have revealed their inaugural collaborative single, “Just Another Rainbow.” The release signals the first musical venture between the Manchester-based artists, hinting at a stream of additional music scheduled for this year.

The three-week recording session for “Just Another Rainbow” took place in Los Angeles and was helmed by producer Greg Kurstin. Notably, Kurstin not only produced the track but also contributed bass, while Joey Waronker handled the drums. A press release teased the anticipation of more new music and the possibility of live performances in the near future.

Gallagher expressed admiration for Squire’s songwriting skills in the release, saying, “I think John’s a top songwriter. Everyone always bangs on about him as a guitarist, but he’s a top songwriter too, man, no two ways about it as far as I’m concerned.” Gallagher also praised Squire’s return to songwriting, highlighting the songs’ impressive melodies even when stripped down to acoustic versions.

Squire provided his perspective on the single, suggesting, “To me, the most obvious take on ‘Just Another Rainbow’ is that it’s about disappointment, and the sentiment is that you never get what you really want.” However, he emphasized the listener’s privilege to interpret the song, stating, “I don’t like to explain songs, I think that’s the privilege of the listener, it’s whatever you want it to be. To me, it’s also one of the most uplifting tracks we’ve made together, which is weird.”
