Joe Russo’s Almost Dead closed their three-show run at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre last night. While most of the group’s two-set offering honored the Grateful Dead’s extended songbook, during their encore JRAD surprised fans by busting out Tom Petty’s “Runnin’ Down a Dream” for the first time since an October 5, 2017, gig at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl.

Though JRAD had not played Petty’s Full Moon Fever track since its 2017 debut, guitarist Tom Hamilton had performed the tune far more recently. On Saturday, the JRAD guitarist joined Summerfeet and bassist Adam Roberts on the tune during an afternoon Rock and Roll Playhouse family show at the Cap’s Garcia’s Space. JRAD guitarist Scott Metzger also joined Summerfeet for “Breakdown” during the show.

JRAD will perform at Charlotte, NC’s The Fillmore on February 8.
