Sinkane Details New LP ‘We Belong,’ Shares Single “How Sweet is Your Love”

Sinkane has announced the April 5 release of his forthcoming album, We Belong, his first full-length collection of new music since 2019’s Dépaysé. The Sudanese-American musician describes the set as his “love letter to Black music” and blends gospel, Afrobeats, funk and soul elements to create a personal sound. As a preview, Sinkane shared his new single, “How Sweet Is Your Love,” paired with the official music video. 

We Belong presents listeners with an inward glance at the painful truth of Black diaspora while also leaving space for love and hope for what’s to come. The new single, “How Sweet Is Your Love,” presents the funk-leaning highpoint of the album, eliciting a celebratory effect using disco synth instrumentals and riffing strings.

With the single, Sinkane intends to push listeners to leave their worries and live in the current moment. “‘How Sweet Is Your Love’ is about remaining in the present and feeling all of your feelings as fully as possible,” Sinkane commented via press release. “It dares you to prove the sweetness of your love, to your loves!”

Paired with the single is its visual equalizer, shot by Bảo Ngô with featured help from the Haus of Tisci ballroom collective. “Their spirit embodies the love and energy of this song. Radical self joy to the max! STOUT, who is featured on ‘We Belong,’ is a part of these Ballroom legends so I reached out. Next thing I knew, we were shooting this video. They did a wonderful job of welcoming us all into this song. Free your mind and your ass will follow,” added the artist. 

We Belong features noted help from producer Money Mark (Beastie Boys), maestro Casey Benjamin, guitarist/producer Mikey Freedom Hart, Phony Ppl’s Aja Grant, percussionist Meia Noite, organist Shedrick Mitchell, former bandmate Amanda Khiri and singers Bilal, STOUT, Tru Osborne and Hollie Cook. In the support seat is the musician’s six-piece band, The Message: Ronnie Lanzilotta (bass), Dave Palazola (drums), Patt Carr (keys), Asher Kurtz (guitar), Ifedayo (vocalist) and Jessica Harp (vocalist).
