SZA & Joni Mitchell Added to Illustrious Grammys Performer List — Joining Billie Eilish, Luke Combs, Travis Scott, U2, More
The Grammys performer list keeps growing, with Joni Mitchell and SZA joining a roster that includes Billie Eilish, Burna Boy, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, U2, and more.
The Recording Academy has announced the addition of SZA to the 2024 Grammys performer lineup, just after revealing Joni Mitchell to be among those taking the stage.
Mitchell has won nine and been nominated for a Grammy 18 times, but this will be the first time she performs at the ceremony. With nine nominations this year, SZA is the most nominated artist at the 66th Grammy Awards. They join previously announced performers Billie Eilish, Billy Joel, Burna Boy, Dua Lipa, Joni Mitchell, Luke Combs, Olivia Rodrigo, Travis Scott, and U2, the latter of whom will deliver the first broadcast performance from Sphere in Las Vegas.
SZA’s position as this year’s most nominated artist is due largely to her chart-topping 2022 album, SOS. Her nominations include Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Progressive R&B Song, Best R&B Song, Best R&B Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best Melodic Rap Performance, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. She has seen 24 Grammy nominations in total, with one win.
Joni Mitchell is nominated for Best Folk Album this year for Joni Mitchell at Newport (Live). This will be the celebrated folk singer’s first performance at the Grammys, though in 2022, she and Bonnie Raitt introduced Brandi Carlile’s performance. Mitchell would perform with Carlile and other artists at the Newport Folk Festival just a few months later.
Her appearance at the 2022 Grammys was her second major return to the public eye following a brain aneurism in 2015; she appeared at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2021.
The 2024 Grammy Awards will be hosted by Trevor Noah and broadcast live on CBS from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 4, at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET. The show will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Prior to that, the premiere ceremony will broadcast live from the Peacock Theater at 12:30 PM PT / 3:30 PM ET and will be streamed live on the Grammys website.
