Domino Recording Company has announced physical reissues of Nico’s second and third solo albums, 1968’s The Marble Index and 1970’s Desertshore. Both albums, long out of print, will be released on March 29 on both vinyl and CD formats with audio mastered from the original studio tapes.

Domino’s repress of The Marble Index will also feature a bonus 7” of Nico’s rarely heard cuts “Roses in the Snow” and “Nibelungen.” These tracks were recorded during the original sessions, but were not released before or since the album’s 1991 CD reissue; this pressing marks their first release on vinyl. Both formats for the albums also include unreleased photos taken of Nico by rock photography innovator Guy Webster.

The Marble Index and Desertshore followed the vocalist’s breakaway underground success from the release of 1967’s Velvet Underground & Nico and her acclaimed solo debut Chelsea Girl. These later works showcase Nico’s songwriting prowess and bear heavy influence from the goth rock movement, exploring new sonic directions as the artist claimed control of her creative output. Nico’s avant-garde sympathies are driven home by her distinctive use of the harmonium and complemented by co-production and further instrumentation from the Velvet Underground’s John Cale.
