Kylie Minogue Tapped for BRITs Global Icon Award, Signs With UTA
First Australia, then the U.K., now Kylie Minogue is setting-up the pieces for a full-scale assault on the United States.
Kylie signs with United Talent Agency (UTA) for live representation in the U.S. and Canada and acting roles worldwide, an alliance that should help the princess of pop build on the success of her More Than Just a Residency show in Las Vegas, which has been extended through May.
Though Kylie is a pop music juggernaut in her homeland and the U.K., where she’s adopted as a national treasure, the U.S. remains largely untapped for the Aussie artist.
Across her 35-year recording career, Kylie has slotted into the top 10 on the Billboard 200 just once, with 2002’s Fever, and hit the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart twice, with “The Loco-Motion” (No. 3 in 1988) and “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” (No. 7 in 2002).
Kylie’s 2023 LP Tension arrived at No. 21 on the Billboard 200, for her highest charting album in the United States in over a decade.
In support of that Tension, Kylie signed up for her first residency in Vegas, performing at Voltaire at the Venetian.
Then, earlier this month, Tension hit “Padam Padam” won for best pop dance recording at the 2024 Grammy Awards, a new category.
The 55-year-old ARIA Hall of Fame inductee won her first Grammy, for best dance recording, back in 2004 for “Come Into My World.”
With UTA on board, Americans can expect to see a whole lot more of Kylie.
Kylie will add to her heaving collection of silverware when she collects the Brits Global Icon award at the BRIT Awards, set for March 2 in London.
She’s just the second woman to claim the accolade, following Taylor Swift in 2021.
Minogue, who has collected three BRIT Awards in the past, is also nominated for international artist of the year.
Don’t bet against her. Following its release, Tension outsold the rest of the U.K. top 5 combined, the Official Charts Company reports, for Kylie’s ninth U.K. No. 1, and “Padam Padam” cracked the U.K. top 10.
Back in 2007, Kylie became the first woman, and first foreigner, to be feted with the U.K.’s Music Industry Trust Award, arguably the most coveted of U.K. industry awards. And she’s the only female artist to score a No. 1 album and top 10 singles in five consecutive decades in the U.K.
Australia’s highest-selling female artist, Kylie has shifted over 80 million albums sold worldwide, according to Mushroom Group.
She will also receive Billboard’s Women in Music Icon Award at a ceremony March 6.
