Zach Bryan’s 2023 criminal case closed after completing deferred prosecution agreement
Zach Bryan‘s 2023 criminal case is now closed after the country star completed his deferred prosecution agreement.
Bryan was arrested in Oklahoma last year on charges of obstruction of investigation, when a police officer had pulled over his security guard’s car when Bryan was travelling to watch a Philadelphia Eagles game in New England.
Bryan got out of his own car, and started getting “too lippy” with the cop when he began wondering why it was going on for so long. Per the affidavit, he later ignored an officer’s demands for him to get back into the car.
He also told officers, “I’ll go to jail. Let’s do it,” and added that situations like these were why “people do not like police officers,” per the document.
Bryan was released on a $1,000 bond after being booked in Craig County jail.
In an apology video posted after his arrest, Bryan said: “He brings me over to his car, and I just didn’t help my situation at all. I felt like a child. It was ridiculous, it was immature, and I just pray everyone knows I don’t think I’m above the law. I was just being disrespectful, and I shouldn’t have been. It was my mistake.”
Now, it has been confirmed that Bryan has completed his six month agreement. Deferred prosecution agreements are generally used in situations where the person has no criminal record, and is a way of taking responsibility to avoid having a recorded criminal conviction.
“Mr. Bryan’s successful completion of the deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) is the conclusion of this criminal case,” Michelle Lowry, director of communications for the Craig County District Attorney said in a statement.
“He admitted responsibility and followed all of the rules and conditions of probation. DPA’s are commonly used in cases where the person has no criminal record. It is an opportunity to take responsibility for their actions, follow probation rules, and avoid having a criminal conviction on their records.”
In other news, last month Bryan announced a second show at London’s BST Hyde Park 2025 due to “phenomenal demand”.
He’ll take to the Great Oak Stage on June 28 and 29, marking his first UK festival headlining slot. A host of support acts are set to be announced in the coming weeks and months.
