The pop star is also aiming to “medicate somewhat of a sick culture through music” through the LP.

As Miley Cyrus lays down the bricks on her next album, one iconic LP has stuck out to her as a source of inspiration: Pink Floyd‘s The Wall.

In her Harper’s Bazaar cover story published Wednesday (Nov. 20), the 31-year-old pop star opened up about her forthcoming ninth studio album — tentatively titled Something Beautiful — which she says she’s been working on with her boyfriend, Liily guitarist Maxx Morando, alongside visual counterparts in collaboration with director Panos Cosmatos. “My idea was making The Wall, but with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture,” she told the publication.

Calling the record “hypnotizing and glamorous,” Cyrus added, “It’s a concept album that’s an attempt to medicate somewhat of a sick culture through music.”

One of the most beloved concept albums of all time, Pink Floyd’s opus spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 starting in December 1979. Two years later, the rock band shared a The Wall companion film, which the “Wrecking Ball” singer says she first saw as a teenager.

“I have this heart-first attachment to it,” she said. “The visual component of [my album] is driving the sound. It was important for me that every song has these healing sound properties. The songs, whether they’re about destruction or heartbreak or death, they’re presented in a way that is beautiful, because the nastiest times of our life do have a point of beauty.”

Fans have been waiting for a new album from the Hannah Montana alum since March 2023, when she dropped Endless Summer Vacation. Reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200, the LP spawned Cyrus’ second-ever and longest-running Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 to date with “Flowers,” which topped the chart for eight weeks. The track earned her not only her first, but second Grammy, with the star taking home record of the year and best pop solo performance in February.
