Jay Blakesberg Offers New Look at Dead & Company with ‘Rainbow Full of Sound’ Coffee Table Book

Celebrated rock photographer Jay Blakesberg has outlined the contents of a new book that provides an in-depth look at Dead & Company’s touring years, 2015-2023. The 352-page hardcover coffee table book continues Blakesberg’s storied tenure capturing shots of the band and functions as the latest visual chapter in the members’ effervescent careers. Titled Dead & Company: Rainbow Full of Sound, the visually stimulating offer is available now. 

Dead & Company: Rainbow Full of Sound presents a historical log regarding the concerts and live experiences that Blakesberg has witnessed. While the book meditates on the last decade, the photographer’s history capturing stills of the original San Francisco jamband extends 46 years, and his late 70s era entrance onto the counterculture scene. 

Opening the book with memories and his own praise for the photographer, drummer Mickey Hart scribed the forward for Rainbow Full of Sound, recalling his journey with the Grateful Dead and the resulting images by Blakesberg. In turn, Blakesberg follows up with personal insights and memories of documenting concerts past. 

Complimenting the text is a spellbinding display of photographs ranging from Bob Weir and John Mayer trapped in a deep and improvisational groove, rhythm devils Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, and Jay Lane, bassist Oteil Burbridge, and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The unique collection of live music moments captures the enduring energy and spirit of the Grateful Dead.
