Béla Fleck Details Sixth Annual Blue Ridge Banjo Camp Featuring Instructors Tony Trischka, Greg Liszt and More

Béla Fleck has announced the annual return of his Blue Ridge Banjo Camp, which will be held at Brevard Music Center in Brevard, N.C., from August 12-17, 2025. Occurring for the sixth time, the impending gathering consists of four days and five nights of banjo instruction led by the event’s official curator, joined by an array of first-class banjo players and fellow instructors. 

Classes will focus on three distinct playing styles: Scruggs, melodic, and single string. Tony Trischka, Kristin Scott Benson, Adam Larrabee, Greg Liszt, and Mark Schatz have signed on to assist curator Fleck with the courses and instrumental commands, which will culminate in a finale concert at Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium on August 17. 

“I’ve loved the banjo and the community that surrounds it ever since I first heard it, and started learning to play,” Fleck imparted, touching on the importance of the instrument before establishing the heart of the program. “The Blueridge Banjo Camp is my chance to put together an amazing team of 3 finger banjoists/teachers to pass along what we’ve each been learning, over the years.” 

“I’m looking forward to expanding the teaching side of what I do, and thankful to have an amazing venue in which we can share our love, fascination and curiosity about music and the five-string banjo,” Fleck projected. 

Fleck has been a leading banjoist in the bluegrass, jazz, folk, classical, and fusion categories for nearly fifty years, as reflected in his decorated award status and exemplifying 18 Grammy wins. As the latest semblance of his first-class career, Fleck unveiled his latest collaborative album with the late jazz great Chick Corea in May 2024–Remembrance. Read more.
