Jungkook’s ‘I Am Still’ documentary has pulled in $18.5million worldwide

Jungkook‘s I Am Still documentary, which chronicles the solo career of the BTS member, has surpassed $18.5million (£14.6million) at the global box office.

The film, which was released in September, follows the star over an eight-month period following the beginning of his solo career, “offering an intimate look at Jung Kook’s creative process, unwavering work ethic, and the unique challenges faced by a global popstar”.

Jungkook kicked off his solo career in July 2023 with his single ‘Seven’ featuring Latto. This was followed two months later by ‘3D’ featuring Jack Harlow. In November 2023, he released his solo album ‘Golden’ which was led by the single ‘Standing Next To You’ before the star enlisted for his mandatory military service at the end of the year.

So far over 1.3million people have watched the documentary at the cinema and according to distributors Trafalgar Releasing, it is the highest-grossing music cinema event of 2024 and the top-grossing film by an Asian solo musical artist.

Across its opening weekend, the film topped the box office in Brazil and came in second in Mexico and Chile. It also reached the top ten in the box office in North America, Germany, Italy, and Malaysia.

In October a ‘Party Edition’ of the film, which included an additional 20 minutes of singalong videos, was also released.

“As both the highest-grossing music cinema event of 2024 and the highest-grossing film by an Asian solo artist, this achievement reflects Jung Kook’s enduring appeal and the strong connection he shares with fans worldwide. We are proud to see this milestone celebrated on a global stage.”

Jungkook: I Am Still is currently streaming on Disney+.
