On Saturday, Dec. 7, the traveling Allman Betts Family Revival rolled through New York for a performance at the iconic Beacon Theatre. This engagement arrived as a spiritual apex of the 19-stop tribute tour, honoring the legendary Allman Brothers Band in the vaunted venue that hosted them more than 230 times in 25 years of performance. The band’s music returned to that hallowed hall once again with the guidance of Southern rock torchbearers Devon Allman and Duane Betts, who celebrated their parents’ musical legacy with an all-star cast of performers.

The eighth-annual Allman Betts Family Revival tour has hosted a rotating lineup of contributors, recombining some of the foremost voices in Americana and improvisational rock for once-in-a-lifetime ensembles. Beyond Allman and Betts, Saturday’s performance at the Beacon Theatre featured contributions from Luther Dickinson, Cody Dickinson, G. Love, Sierra Hull, Grace Bowers, Jimmy Hall, Anders Osborne, Larry McCray, Lindsay Lou, Jackie Greene, Lamar Williams, Jr. and Alex Orbison–a stacked cast worthy of treating such titanic tracks as “Dreams,” “Statesboro Blues,” “Southbound” and “Whipping Post.” Through the evening, this team was joined by even more special guests, welcoming Robert Randolph and Sierra Greene for “Trouble No More,” “Please Call Home” and “Stormy Monday,” and the full cast of the evening returned for the epic closer of “Midnight Rider.”

The 2024 run marks the first Allman Betts Family Revival since the great Dickey Betts passed away in April. As they have in all performances since the guitarist’s departure, the bandmates paid tribute to their forebearer throughout the set, with particularly powerful moments arriving in the classics “Blue Sky” and “Ramblin’ Man.” Saturday’s performance also fell on the day before what would have been Gregg Allman’s 77th birthday. “Sure wish I was hittin’ the note with you instead of for you,” Devon said to his father with an honorary post to his social channels.
