Live Nation Productions has tapped actor Owen Wilson to star alongside comedian Matt Rife in “Rolling Loud,” a father-son comedy set at the titular hip-hop festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Written and directed by Jeremy Garelick, production on the film kicked off in Miami over the weekend.

“Rolling Loud” is inspired by a true story about an overprotective father (Wilson) who sneaks his 13-year-old son into the hip-hop festival. This sets off a chaotic adventure with his co-worker (Rife) and an eccentric festival volunteer as they navigate the festival crowds, security, and each other.

From Live Nation Productions and American High, the film will be produced by Garelick and Will Phelps for American High, alongside Stella Bulochnikov for Pat Solitano Productions, Jolene, and Doug Banker for Five All in the Fifth. Executive producers include Ryan Kroft for Live Nation Productions; Pasquale Rotella, Matt Zingler, and Tariq Cherif of Rolling Loud; Rife; and Christina Shams. UTA Independent Film Group has worldwide rights to the film, which is due to release next year.

Owen Wilson made a surprise appearance during Travis Scott’s set at Rolling Loud over the weekend, which was reportedly for a scene in the film. The actor recently finished up the second season of Disney+’s Marvel series, “Loki,” starring Tom Hiddleston. He also executive produced and stars in an untitled series for Apple that centers on an over-the-hill pro golfer, set to premiere in 2025.

Matt Rife is currently selling out arenas with his recently announced “Stay Golden Tour,” which includes two shows at Madison Square Garden. He recently released his first book, Your Mom’s Gonna Love Me, a memoir from Simon & Schuster and New York Times bestseller.
