Taylor Swift and Rosé Score ARIA Christmas No. 1s
Christmas is almost here, though Taylor Swift and Rosé unwrap their chart presents early.
BLACKPINK star Rosé lands a seventh non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with “APT.” (via Warner), her collaboration with Bruno Mars.
If it holds its course for another week, “APT.” will draw level with Sabrina Carpenter’s “Taste” for the title of 2024’s longest-reigning leader.
Meanwhile, the Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey, is close behind with her festive treat “All I Want For Christmas Is You” (Columbia/Sony), up 8-3 on the national tally.
Originally released back in 1994, Carey’s signature song makes its annual march up the chart — though it wasn’t until 2018 when the single was crowned. Since then, the single has returned to the ARIA Singles Chart summit every Christmas, logging eight combined weeks at No. 1.
Christmas songs play their merry tune on both main chart, published Friday, December 20th.
Among them: Wham’s “Last Christmas” (up 10-7 via Sony), Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” (up 16-10 via Warner/Universal), Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” (up 22-14 via Universal) and Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” (up 24-18 via Universal).
There’s a noteworthy climb for English singer Lola Young, whose “Messy” (Island/Universal) makes a clean leap 18-6, for her first top 10 appearance.
Over on the ARIA Albums Chart, Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department (Universal) reclaims the title, for its eighth week in charge. Tortured Poets was the most-streamed album globally, according to data published by Spotify.
Swift, whose The Eras Tour stopped by earlier in the 2024 for seven stadium shows across Sydney and Melbourne, has dominated the ARIA Chart for a total of 18 weeks in 2024, including leadership stints for 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (six weeks), Midnights (two weeks), Lover (two weeks).
The top new release belongs to K-pop boy band Stray Kids, with the mixtape Hop (VMG/UMA), new at No. 4. Featuring Australian singers Felix and Bang Chan, Stray Kids went as high as No. 2 in 2023 with 5-Star. Stray Kids cracked the 2024 Billboard year-end lists, appearing at No. 4 on the frame for Top Artists – Duo/Group.
Finally, Michael Bublé’s yuletide juggernaut Christmas (Reprise/Warner) returns to the ARIA Top 10, up 13-9. The Canadian crooner’s collection has notched 15 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 since its release in 2011, has accumulated 99 weeks on the chart, and is certified double diamond by ARIA.
