Nicki Minaj Sued Over Alleged Backstage Blowup In Detroit

Nicki Minaj has been slapped with a lawsuit, after she allegedly slapped her former day-to-day manager during a heated backstage tiff last year.

Minaj’s former employee Brandon Jovan Garrett is suing the rap icon, accusing her of backhanding him during the argument at a Detroit venue in April 2024.

According to Garrett’s complaint (via Rolling Stone), things went off the rails when Minaj’s head of security summoned him to her dressing room at Little Caesars Arena.

He says Minaj was already riled up, accusing her staff of making a mess. Then, after Garrett explained that he had delegated the task of picking up the artist’s prescriptions (because Minaj had requested it “immediately” while he was busy assisting with a costume change), Minaj allegedly lost her temper.

The rapper allegedly raged: “Are you crazy having him pick up my prescription? You’ve lost your mind, and if my husband was here, he’d knock out your teeth,” adding: “You’re a dead man walking”.

Garrett claims the confrontation escalated, with Minaj storming towards him, delivering a slap across his face, and knocking documents out of his hand.

After the alleged incident, Garrett claims he locked himself in a bathroom until 4am, before eventually reporting the incident to police.

He’s now suing Minaj for assault, battery, and emotional distress, with the dollar amount of damages to be decided at trial.

Minaj’s lawyer has since responded publicly to the allegations, calling them “false and frivolous”.

This isn’t Minaj’s first brush with accusations of physical altercations. Just last year, she and her husband were ordered to pay $500K to a security guard following an alleged backstage incident at a 2019 show in Germany.
