Iggy Pop hails Tyler, The Creator as “a genuine, old-school talent”

Iggy Pop has hailed Tyler, The Creator as a “genuine, old-school talent” in his latest BBC 6 Music radio show episode.

On his show Iggy Confidential, the punk legend reminisced about the time he did a “day’s work” with the rapper – where they both featured in a Gucci campaign with A$AP Rocky.

In the Harmony Korine-directed video, the suited-and-booted rock and hip-hop stars mess around at a West Coast home where they eat spaghetti and dance in bathrooms.

Tyler seemed to have made a lasting impression on Iggy Pop, as he said on the airwaves: “I’ve always liked Tyler. I did a day’s work with him once, and he would do what it takes to get attention. He’s also a genuine all-around song, dance, writer talent — a genuine old-school talent with a new-school approach.”

In other Tyler-related news, the rapper recently shared his favourite songs of 2024. The list includes Kendrick Lamar’s ‘GNX’, GloRilla’s ‘Hollon’, Mk.gee’s ‘Alesis’ and SahBabii’s ‘Viking’. “Thank you all for these songs. I’m so grateful I get to hear them. I love you, I want to eat them broooooo,” he wrote in the post caption.

Meanwhile, Iggy Pop announced  “landmark” UK shows in London, Manchester and Glasgow, set to take place this year. The shows will celebrate Iggy’s musical legacy and will see him perform hits from across his five-decade career.

Ahead of the release of his latest album, ‘Every Loser‘, Iggy spoke to NME about his legacy and impact on pop culture. “I suppose if I was another person, I could sit down and graph all that out and come up with some sort of a schematic plan to capitalise a little bit more, but I’m not,” he told us.

“I have noticed life has become a little easier and more rewarding in certain areas than it used to be and seems to continue that way, which really surprises me. Mostly I’m grateful there are people who’ve listened to the music and enjoy it.”
