Billy Joel & Rod Stewart to Perform at Yankee Stadium

This summer, Billy Joel and Rod Stewart will join forces for a co-headline bill at New York’s Yankee Stadium. The dual icons of rock and pop will stage at the famed diamond in the heart of the Bronx on July 18, presenting two separate full sets exploring their classic discography.

“We are thrilled to host Billy Joel and Rod Stewart this summer at Yankee Stadium,” offered the Yankees’ Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Scott Krug in a statement on the concert. “Their timeless catalogs and impact on the history of rock and roll music cannot be overstated, and we expect a magical evening with them in the Bronx.

“It is also particularly fitting that Billy Joel, who was born in the Bronx and is so iconically identified with New York, will become the first musical act to headline a show at both the original Yankee Stadium and the current Yankee Stadium,” Krug continued, referencing one of Joel’s most memorable live moments. On June 22 and 23, 1990, Joel performed at the Bronx Bombers’ old home turf as the highlight of his touring for his 1989 album Storm Front, delivering two unforgettable shows collected for his 1990 concert film Billy Joel: Live from Yankee Stadium. Joel’s July performance will be his first engagement at the new Yankee Stadium, officially opened in 2009.

Before the New York stand, Joel and Stewart will perform at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium on July 5; the two shared bills from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame fall within Joel’s ongoing “One Night – One Stage” tour. While the series arrives in the last act of Rod Stewart’s One Last Time Tour, a formal farewell to the stage set to conclude on August 15, the tireless Joel has several more high-profile performances planned. The Piano Man will appear alongside Sting in Indianapolis, Charlotte, N.C., Syracuse, N.Y. and Salt Lake City and will reunite with Stevie Nicks in Detroit.
