With the influence of ’90s-originated shoegaze music on newer rock bands now more deeply apparent than ever, two of the genres titans are back with new material. Swervedriver are teasing their The World’s Fair EP, due March 7 from Outer Battery Records, with the track “Volume Control,” while Lush principal Miki Berenyi‘s trio will unveil their debut album, Tripla, April 4 through Bella Union.

The World’s Fair was made with assistance from fellow shoegaze legend Mark Gardener of Ride, as well as TJ Doherty and YouTube music instruction sensation Rick Beato, who has previously proclaimed Swervedriver to be his favorite band and posted a video last month of the group’s frontman, Adam Franklin, explaining how to play some of their more complicated riffs.

Will Foster, Calina De La Mare and Sarah Willson also lent a hand on the EP, which will be supported by a yet-to-be-announced tour. The World’s Fair is Swervedriver’s first new music since the 2019 album Future Ruins.

Meanwhile, Berenyi’s Tripla is preceded by the electronic-tinged single “8th Deadly Sin,” a video for which can be seen below. She’s joined in the group by former Moose guitarist KJ “Moose” McKillop and Oliver Cherer.

Speaking about “8th Deadly Sin,” Berenyi says Bella Union head and former Cocteau Twins member Simon Raymonde “instantly picked this out as a single and it immediately went down a storm when we played it live. I can’t pretend that I am in a position to lecture others over their green credentials, but there’s a broader philosophy in the song that I can relate to — humanity hurtling toward its own destruction, which (to me) applies as much to wars and social intolerance as it does environmental issues.”

Berenyi and company will tour internationally throughout the spring, beginning Friday (Jan. 17) in Lewes, England.
