EGOISM Share Vulnerable New Single ‘So I Heard’

EGOISM have shared a new single, entitled ‘So I Heard’. It marks their first new music of 2025, and follows on from their three singles released in 2024: ‘Sydney’, ‘Getting Older’ and ‘Melbourne’. The song interpolates the opening line and melody of ‘Somebody Else’, the 2016 single by The 1975. In a statement detailing the theme of the new song, co-frontperson Olive Rush (who sings lead vocals on the track) elaborated that ‘So I Heard’ revolves around “reflections of a teenage love addict”.

“When I was in high school, all I wanted was to fall in love,” they said. “When I would imagine my future, it was always hand-in-hand with whomever had caught my eye that week. The inevitable heartbreak that would ensue from these mostly-imagined love affairs was epic, only leaving me more irrationally loyal to any relationship that stuck.

“I hope everyone reading this can one day find peace, far far away from their high school romantic endeavours,” Rush concluded. An accompanying music video for the song, directed by Benjamin Mich, has also been shared – and can be viewed below.

EGOISM – ‘So I Heard’

EGOISM’s last extended release was their second EP, 2020’s On Our Minds. Since then, the Sydney indie-pop trio have spent the 2020s releasing stand-alone singles. ‘Lonely But Not Alone’ was released in 2021, with the double A-side of ‘For Ages’/’2016–2018’ being released the following year.

The band recently completed a national tour in support of The Rions, and have thus far locked in two support slots for 2025: Opening for Middle Kids at their Twilight At Taronga show in early March, and opening for Teenage Dads at their Great Southern Nights event at the Dee Why RSL later that month. At the latter show, they will be joined by Mac The Knife as support.
