Peter Rowan Receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Ireland

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, bluegrass legend Peter Rowan received the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award during the sold-out Folk in Fusion concert during Ireland’s premiere music conference, Your Roots Are Showing, at INEC Arena in Killarney. 

The esteemed award was presented to Rowan by Grammy-award-winning banjo player and co-founder of Compass Records, Alison Brown, and Business Development Director of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), Anna Kline. 

Via press release, the folks behind the occasion mentioned Rowan’s roots, performing under the guidance of the great Bill Monroe, as a member of Old & In the Way, and longstanding solo career. Rowan’s five-decades on stage illuminates his status as a maven of his craft.

Charlene Sloan, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Your Roots Are Showing, addressed the gathering, stating, “Honoring Peter Rowan with our first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award is a celebration of his immeasurable influence on folk and bluegrass music—a legacy that has inspired generations and embodies the very heart of Your Roots Are Showing.”

Brendan McCreanor, fellow Co-Founder and Creative Director of Your Roots Are Showing, shared, “Peter Rowan’s music is timeless, blending tradition with innovation in a way that resonates deeply. Playing onstage with him was an unforgettable experience, and this award is a fitting tribute to his profound impact on the global folk community and the stories he’s brought to life.” 

“Peter’s creative vision, extensive musical contributions, and innovative, inclusive spirit are the very essence of what inspires and invigorates our community. I am deeply honored to represent IBMA and celebrate this career milestone with him and our YRAS partners,” Kline extended. 

After words of admiration, Rowan thanked the audience and, in turn, performed a four-song set before accompanying the other lineup participants in an ensuing four-hour musical performance.
