Taylor Swift has reportedly held “preliminary talks” with officials about playing Shanghai
It has been reported that Taylor Swift had “preliminary talks” with officials about performing in Shanghai.
As confirmed by Reuters, Zhang Qi, deputy director of Shanghai’s culture and tourism bureau, told the Chinese media outlet The Paper that they had met with the ‘Bejeweled’ singer’s team.
“As for whether it can take place in the end, we feel that it will have to depend on the market and the attractiveness of the city of Shanghai,” he said. “But we are optimistic that they may be hope this year.”
NME has contacted a Taylor Swift spokesperson for a response to the official’s comments.
Swift wrapped up her massive record breaking ‘Eras’ word tour which saw her take over stadiums in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The mamoth run of dates came to an end on December 8 2024 at Vancouver, British Columbia’s BC Place Stadium, after 149 shows that took place across 21 months.
It was revealed that in total, the worldwide trek sold a record-breaking $2,077,618,725 (£1.6billion) worth of tickets, per the New York Times.
Following the tour coming to a close, it was reported that Swift gave out a cool $197million (£152million) in bonuses to her crew. She had previously given out over $55million (£43million) in bonuses to the crew members working on the tour over last summer.
The Eras tour also helped boost local economies, with it being reported that the tour would add about £1billion to the British economy. Back in 2023, the tour became the first to ever gross $1billion.
In other Swift news, the popstar recently spoke about the devastating LA Wildfires that have engulfed the city. “As so many people embark on some of the most challenging times of their lives, there are also many amazing organisations and groups banding together to help these communities rebuild,” she wrote in a note on her Instagram.
She continued, sharing that she has made donations to several organisations such as 11 LA, California Community Foundation Fund, Habitat For Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, Los Angeles Unified School District Education Foundation and MusiCares.
