Roof Collapses At Bad Omens’ Melbourne Show, Reportedly Injuring Fans
At least one Bad Omens fan has been injured after multiple ceiling panels at Melbourne’s Festival Hall collapsed on the crowd during last night’s show.
According to multiple eye-witness reports, the American alt-metal act were kicking off their goodbye, friend Australian tour at the venue and fired off confetti canons in a climactic moment during the penultimate song of the set, ‘Just Pretend’ from their 2022 album THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND. This apparently triggered multiple ceiling panels to collapse onto fans in the general admission area.
“Thank you to our onsite first aid team who responded quickly”
According to a Wall Of Sound report, at least one fan was knocked out, while another told the site she was “covered in blood” from a punter next to her.
Another fan commented on Facebook, saying: “It was actually really bad… Two girls got dragged out in front of me, one bleeding from her mouth and neck, the other from her knee… A bunch of people in the area were scrambling to get out.”
However, in a statement to The Music, a spokesperson for Festival Hall clarified that nobody was taken to hospital as a result of the incident, and also confirmed that the band’s second sold-out show at the venue, scheduled for tonight, would still be going ahead.
“Thank you to our onsite first aid team who responded quickly,” the venue spokesperson said. “We have conducted an immediate review of the special effects vendor and additional safety checks before tonight’s show.”
Bad Omens have yet to comment publicly on the incident.
The genre-bending act are visiting fans in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney on their goodbye, friend tour, supported by two big internationals – multimedia metal artist Poppy and alt-metal outfit, House of Protection (comprised of former members of Fever 333).
