On Friday night, Jan. 17, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead touched down in Port Chester, N.Y. to commence a three night run at The Capitol Theatre. The premier Grateful Dead homage ensemble set their latest stand at the vaunted rock palace off with a bang, ripping through two sets of Dead classics revived with masterful improvisation. Early highlights from the show included “Alligator,” “Viola Lee Blues” (featuring a tease of “China Cat Sunflower”) and a bust-out of “Long Black Veil,” which appeared for the first time since December 2022. After a jam-packed second set, which included classics like “The Other One,” “Ramble on Rose” and “Let It Grow,” the band opened its encore with a treatment of the unforgettable Twin Peaks score “Laura Palmer’s Theme,” delivered by keyboardist Marco Benevento in tribute to legendary director David Lynch, who passed away on Jan. 15.
