Episode 116 of The JamBase Podcast, a partner of the Osiris Media Network, features an interview with Steve Poltz. JamBase’s Andy Kahn spoke to the veteran singer-songwriter about his recently released studio album, Stardust And Satellites.

Poltz was at his home in Nashville for the interview that took place over a video call just prior to the February 18 release of Stardust And Satellites. Poltz talked about how his new album grew out of getting together with The Wood BrothersOliver Wood and Jano Rix during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic for socially-distant backyard hangs that turned into jams.

Wood and Rix co-produced Stardust & Satellites and, along with engineer and bassist Brook Sutton, were the primary backing musicians on the album that was recorded at The Wood Brothers’ Nashville studio. Much of the conversation delved into Poltz’s songwriting process and how it evolved and changed over his lengthy career.

The interview also touched on Poltz’s approach to working with outside collaborators and songwriters. Poltz described his methods for making guests like Nicki Bluhm and Lindsay Lou feel comfortable when contributing their parts to the album.

Poltz also discussed his time spent as an adolescent in the traveling musical group Up With People – who you may be familiar with from their early Super Bowl halftime performances. Other topics that came up during the interview with Poltz included his recent touring with The Wood Brothers, co-writing a song with Billy Strings, connecting with other Nashville-based musicians and much more.
