Episode 114 of The JamBase Podcast, a partner of the Osiris Media Network, features an interview with Jake Xerxes Fussell. JamBase’s Andy Kahn interviewed the guitarist about his fantastic new album, Good And Green Again, which is out now on the Paradise Of Bachelors record label.

The interview with Fussell took place a few weeks ago over a video call while he was on a short solo tour of the East Coast. Fussell’s fourth album, Good And Green Again, once again sees him taking a similar approach as his prior records, as the new one also mostly saw Fussell showcasing his arrangements of traditional folk songs.

Unlike his past albums, Good And Green Again includes a few of the guitarist’s original songs, which was one of the many things discussed during the interview. Fussell also talked about his feelings as they relate to the traditions surrounding the traditional songs he uses as his sources.

The interview touched on his process of finding and cataloging the source material that informs his music. Fussell described how it’s important to him to present the information about his sources in the album’s liner notes.

Fussell detailed the other musicians who contributed to Good And Green Again. The record features Will Oldham, who records as Bonnie “Prince” Billy, as well as the other musicians who were part of the album, including producer James Elkington, drummer Joe Westerlund, bassist Casey Toll, violinist/violist Libby Rodenbough, pedal steel guitarist Nathan Golub and others.
