Cat Power to Play Bob Dylan for Valentine’s Carnegie Hall Concert

Today, Cat Power announced she will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Feb. 14. In celebration of the news, she released “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “Like A Rolling Stone” off her upcoming live and tribute album, Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert.

The Valentine’s Day performance will be a 15-song recreation of Bob Dylan’s iconic 1966 show at the Manchester Free Trade Hall, a performance she recently brought to London’s Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House. The fresh tastes from the live album from the Royal Albert Hall show, follow Power’s covers of “She Belongs to Me” and “Ballad of a Thin Man.”

“I am bringing the show to Carnegie Hall…February 14 naturally❤️ I am over joyed !!,” Power shared on social media. “Thank you to everybody who believed in this project. We love these songs Bob, and we love you.”

Power, also known as Chan Marshall, said in a press release that playing songs from Dylan “felt like a real honor” and that she had immense respect for Dylan, “the man who crafted so many songs that helped develop conscious thinking in millions of people, helped shape the way they see the world.”

Her performance at Carnegie Hall, like the shows in London and Sydney, will see an acoustic first set with the second half amplified and electric with a full band. The presentation is a tribute to Dylan’s iconic show at Manchester Free Trade Hall, which, due to a mislabeled bootleg, was known as the “Royal Albert Hall Concert,” during which he played electric guitar to the chagrin of folk purists.

Power is currently on touring and has three sold-out performances lined up for the next month: two gigs at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, Calif., on November 6 and 7, before heading to Los Angeles Palace Theatre on November 8.
