Sia has filed a lawsuit in the hopes of exposing an identity thief who has been trying to access her unreleased music.

The lawsuit has been filed against an unidentified John/Jane Doe defendant, who has been posing as the singer online and sending emails to industry insiders demanding access to her unreleased recordings.
Although the exact identity of the person is not yet known, the culprit is thought to be living in California and has been illegally contacting people working in the music industry over the last few months pretending to be the musician.
Sia – whose real name is Sia Kate Isobelle Furler – has launched the lawsuit in the hopes of obtaining records from any email providers used by the alleged perpetrator to send the fraudulent messages, and to expose the person responsible.
According to a report by Rolling Stone, the complaint states that the “defendant has emailed a number of persons in the music industry with whom plaintiff is acquainted, including California residents, identifying him or herself as plaintiff, using an email address containing plaintiff’s name”. It also adds that, under the guise of Sia, the person has been “fraudulently asking the acquaintances to send the person recordings of plaintiff performing that are not publicly available.”
The ‘Chandelier’ singer is seeking real and punitive damages for the alleged email spoofing, identity theft and invasion of privacy, as well as attorney fees.
The case is ongoing and Sia’s lawyer has not yet publicly commented on the lawsuit.
In other Sia news, last month the singer-songwriter shared a new single titled ‘Gimme Love’, taken from her forthcoming album ‘Reasonable Woman’.
Set for release in spring 2024 via Atlantic Records, the LP will mark her first full-length project in eight years, and can be pre-ordered here.
Additionally, she has also been working with Paris Hilton as the executive producer for the latter’s upcoming album and first full LP since 2006.
