Today, Sudanese-American musician Sinkane released “Everything is Everything,” his first original offering since 2019’s Dépaysé. The song comes hot on the heels of a sold-out, three-night residency at Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Public Records and the accompanying music video is comprised of footage from the live performances.

“Everything is Everything” was written and composed by bandleader Ahmed Gallab and features vocalist Tru Osborne. According to the artist, the song serves as a reflection of life as a Black person in America.

“The complexity of living in a Black body has long been documented, yet tapping into our pain to testify, curb further abuses for the next generation, or simply explain ourselves is exhausting,” Gallab explained. “We get through it by wearing masks. The entertainer, pacifier, comforter. Being adept at reading rooms and choosing which one to wear is one of our many superpowers; one we’ve elevated to an art. But, behind all of the eloquence and the adaptation, we’re bursting at the seams, holding tightly onto our humanity in a world that challenges it on a daily basis. Ain’t that some shit?”

The jazzy ballad looks that reality in the face, opening with, “We’re here again/ Ain’t nobody listenin’… Y’all only know our names from hashtags,” then locks into hope, resulting in a call for action; “The tides of change/ Serve great purpose in our every day/ My people, we will find our way.”

On “Everything is Everything” and the music waiting to be released, Sinkane connected with an array of musicians and collaborators, including The Beastie Boys’ Money Mark, Casey Benjamin, guitarist/producer Mikey Freedom Hart, Phony Ppl’s Aja Grant, percussionist Meia Noite, organist Shedrick Mitchell, former bandmate Amanda Khiri, and singers Bilal, STOUT, Tru Osborne, Hollie Cook.

Additionally, Sinkane arranged a six-piece band called The Message, featuring Ronnie Lanzilotta (bass), Dave Palazola (drums), Patt Carr (keys), Asher Kurtz (guitar), Ifedayo Gatling (vocalist), and Jessica Harp (vocalist) to bring his recordings to fans in a live setting.
