Andrew Bird has just announced two North American tours alongside Nickel Creek and Amadou & Mariam. In July, the indie folk figurehead and the newly reunited Nickel Creek will co-headline 13 stops across the country, beginning in the Northwest and closing in the Southeast. Then, in August, Amadou & Mariam will join Bird for eight engagements in the Midwest, Northeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions. A portion of the proceeds from the first tour will go to benefit World Central Kitchen.
Bird and Nickel Creek’s Up, Up, and Away Tour launches on July 5 from Britt Festival Pavilion in Jacksonville, Ore. After a July 6 performance at Hayden Homes Amphitheatre in Bend, Ore., the combo will make seven stops in the Midwest on July 7-15 en route to an engagement at Charlottesville, Va.’s Ting Pavilion on July 17. This commences the tour’s Southeast leg, composed of appearances at Rabbit Rabbit in Asheville, N.C. on July 18, Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Roxy on July 19 and lastly Firefly Distillery in North Charleston, S.C. on July 20. $1 from every ticket sold to the Up, Up, and Away Tour will support World Central Kitchen’s mission of fighting food insecurity from the frontlines of global crises.
After a few weeks away, Bird will return to the Road on August 8 for a performance at Rock the Ruins in Indianapolis’ Holiday Park with support from acclaimed Malian folk-fusion duo Amadou & Mariam. On August 10, this lineup will move to Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, Mich., then cross the Northern border to perform at Montreal, Quebec’s landmark L’Olympia theater. The tour returns to the States with a gig at Frog Alley Brewing Summerstage, followed by four events down the Mid-Atlantic states to Raleigh, N.C.’s North Carolina Museum of Art on August 20. Finally, Bird’s summer touring schedule will conclude with a show at Wolf Trap – Filene Center in Vienna, VA.
This tour follows a banner 2023 for Bird, who released his 19th studio album Outside Problems, a wide-open, atmospheric instrumental follow-up to 2022’s introspective Inside Problems, denoting two distinct strains in the artist’s prolific discography. Nickel Creek also had an eventful year, reuniting for Celebrants, its first album since 2014’s A Dotted Line. Nickel Creek will begin its solo Spring tour on February 6th; visit nickelcreek.com/tour for more information.
VIP tickets for Andrew Bird’s summer tour release today, Jan. 30, at 10:00 a.m. local time for each venue. Artist presale tickets are available now, to be followed by the general onsale on Friday, Feb. 2 at 10:00 a.m. local time. For tickets and more information, visit andrewbird.net.
