Anne Hathaway credits Christopher Nolan with saving her career after she became an internet joke.

The 42-year-old actress is set to star in her third Nolan film and told Women’s Wear Daily in a December 2024 profile that the director is the reason for her success today. She also noted how thankful she is for the 54-year-old filmmaker.

“I have so many feelings about it that I don’t even know how to articulate,” Hathaway said. “It fills me with so much joy … I love Chris and Emma Nolan so much, and to be invited into their world is one of the best places you can find yourself. Getting to be invited twice felt special, but three times? That would’ve been greedy, so I never let myself hope that would happen. That it has makes me emotional. It makes me feel like I’m doing something right.”

Hathaway previously opened up to Vanity Fair about how Nolan helped her career following harsh criticism during her 2013 Oscar season for Les Misérables.

“A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” she shared. “I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who didn’t care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films I’ve been a part of.”

Hathaway made her Nolan debut as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. She later starred in Interstellar alongside Matthew McConaughey and is now set to join Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron in Nolan’s Oppenheimer follow-up.

The untitled film is expected to begin production in early 2025, with a release date of July 17, 2026.
