Bob Dylan Co-Signs Timothée Chalamet’s ‘A Complete Unknown’ Portrayal Prior to Release of Initial Soundtrack Singles

On Wednesday, everybody’s favorite tweeting bard was back online.

As of late, Bob Dylan has been making a habit of capturing his thoughts online, using the social media platform Twitter/X to cast his feelings to a wide net of 471.6K followers. Having last offered his feelings on Nick Cave’s song “Joy,” Dylan returned to co-sign Timothée Chalamet’s acting chops in the biographical drama based on the musician’s 60s-era come-up. 

“There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!). Timothée Chalamet is starring in the lead role. Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me. The film’s taken from Elijah Wald’s Dylan Goes Electric – a book that came out in 2015. It’s a fantastic retelling of events from the early ‘60s that led up to the fiasco at Newport. After you’ve seen the movie read the book.”

Chalamet responded to Dylan, tweeting, “Floored. I am so grateful. Thank you Bob.” 

Coincidentally, Dylan’s tweet [knowingly or not] served as a preview for today’s single release from the movie soundtrack, Chalamet’s covers of staple songs, “Like a Rolling Stone,” for which the title culls its name, and heartbreaker, “Girl From the North Country.” Listen to the actor’s covers below. 

The James Mangold-directed A Complete Unknown will be released on Christmas, December 25, 2024.
