Last night, Dec. 30, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros. continued their New Year’s stand at Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The second night on stage at the Sunshine State venue started similarly to their opener, with frontman Weir stepping out solo for the initial tune, a take on Little Feat’s “Easy to Slip,” prior to the arrival of more players for the three-piece follow up: “Only a River.”
More musicians took the stage for an ensuing take on “Deal” and “Ramble on Rose.” A swell of sound engulfed the room with the 10-person delivery of the Ace cut, “Greatest Story Ever Told.” The band added in “She Says” before a classic pairing of “Weather Report Suite” with “Let It Grow,” which took them into a set break.
After returning to the stage of the latter portion of the concert, Weir and company began with a cover of “You Win Again,” followed by “Two Djinn.” “Uncle John’s Band” welcomed the most jammed-out segment of the night when it merged into “Supplication” back to a reprise of “Uncle John’s Band” and eventually full-plays of “He’s Gone” and “The Other One.”
The aforementioned number ran into The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” before the band ended their second set by nodding to the day of the week with a rousing rendition of “One More Saturday Night.” The evening’s encore saw Weir take on Bob Dylan’s “It’s All Over Now Baby Blue” to cap the second night of their New Year’s stand.
After last night’s performance, Weir and his Wolf Bros. ensemble will return to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts to deliver a three-set concert. Tickets are sold out. Packages are available via FANS.live for those interested in streaming the concert.
