This January, Brian Eno is heading back to the classroom for a series of songwriting workshops. Headed by songwriting institution School of Song, the program spans four lectures as well as three question-and-answer sessions, with in-class exercises during each installment. Throughout the course, participants will work towards a portfolio of four original songs that draw on the techniques and exercises Eno presents in each lecture.

“I’m looking forward to the chance to properly articulate some ideas about the creative process that have been fermenting over the last 50 years,” explained Eno on School of Song’s website. “To be able to do this with some fresh young minds and imaginations was a chance that I couldn’t refuse,” he concluded.

At the School of Song, Eno joins the likes of talented musicians-turned-teachers like Laraaji, Adrienne Lenker, Buck Meek, Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, Bartees Strange, Kimbra, Miya Folick and more. Topics include “The Role of Surrender,” “Avant Gardening,” “Creating a Compelling Sonic World,” “Oblique Strategies” and “Should Music Still Be Called Music,” each of which have accompanying questions like “What happens when we allow ourselves to experiment at the furthest reaches of our imagination?”

The lectures will take place at 12:00 p.m. PST on Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 25, and the question and answer sessions are set to occur at 12:00 pm. PST on Jan 8, 15 and 22. Song-shares will be held on Jan 11, 18 and 25 with four different time options from 11:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. PST.
