Carrie Underwood, Jonas Brothers, TLC and Sophie Ellis-Bextor headline New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show in Times Square

Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers, TLC and Sophie Ellis-Bextor were among the performers at this year’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve show in Times Square.

The show, produced by Dick Clark Productions and iHeartMedia, was hosted by Ryan Seacrest for the 20th consecutive year, alongside co-host Rita Ora, who also performed on the night.

With over one million people estimated to be in attendance, the bill was topped by Underwood, on the 20th anniversary of her victory on American Idol. The Grammy winner played just before the famous ball drop in Times Square, playing the likes of ‘Church Bells’, ‘Pink Champagne’ and ‘Before He Cheats’.

Another 20th anniversary was being commemorated by the Jonas Brothers, who broke into the music industry in 2004. Playing just after midnight, they ran through a range of their hits, including ‘Play My Music’, ‘Leave Before You Love Me’ and ‘Sucker’, as well as a cover of The Cranberries’ 1992 single ‘Dreams’.

Ora treated the crowd to ‘Let You Love Me’, ‘Praising You’ and ‘Ask & You Shall Receive’, while Ellis-Bextor played her 2001 hit ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’, which has a viral revivial in 2024 after its memorable inclusion in the climax to Saltburn.

TLC celebrated the 30th anniversary of their classic album ‘CrazySexyCool’ by playing ‘No Scrubs’ and ‘Waterfalls’, while the freestyle rapper Harry Mack performed a spontaneous rap inspired by words suggested by the audience.

Rising country star Megan Moroney was also on hand in Times Square with a three-song medley of ‘Man On The Moon’, ‘No Caller ID’ and ‘Am I Okay’.

In conjunction with the New York event, the show also included live performances from venues across the world. Robbie Williams played in Sydney, Jungle were live in London, Luis Fonsi performed in Puerto Rico, Alanis Morissette, Reneé Rapp, Ja Rule and Kesha were on the West Coast and Blake Shelton and Lenny Kravitz were in Las Vegas.

The full show is still available to stream via Hulu in the US and was live-streamed on the iHeartRadio app and on 150 affiliated radio stations nationwide.
