Celine Dion Has Lost Control Over Her Muscles, Sister Confirms

Celine Dion’s sister shares that the singer no longer has control over her muscles in her ongoing struggles with the rare neurological disorder, Stiff-Person Syndrome.

In a recent interview with 7 Jours, Canadian singer Celine Dion’s sister Claudette Dion says that her younger sister is “working hard” living with the neurological disorder called Stiff-Person Syndrome, but she “doesn’t have control of her muscles.”

“What pains me is that she’s always been disciplined. She’s always worked hard,” said Claudette. “There’s no doubt that in our dreams and in hers, the idea is to come back to the stage. In which state, I don’t know. The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle.”

Unfortunately, because Stiff-Person Syndrome is so rare, there is little information about the condition and not enough scientific advancement to treat it.

“That’s what is so upsetting to me. Since these cases are one in a million, scientists have not done that much research since it doesn’t affect that many people,” Claudette added.

Celine revealed in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder. The singer told fans in a video posted to Instagram about her diagnosis, saying, “While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having.”

The singer noted the spasms affect nearly every aspect of her daily life, including issues with walking and singing. In sister Claudette’s recent interview, the elder Dion described Celine’s symptoms as “how people often jump up in the night” due to a sudden spasm or cramp. “It’s a bit like that, but in all muscles. There’s little we can do to support her, to alleviate her pain.”

Because of her symptoms, Celine Dion is unsure if she will be able to perform on stage again, and canceled her 2023-2024 world tour.
