Primal Scream have shared a cover of the Lana Del Rey track ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’. Check it out below.

Bobby Gillespie and co. put their own dance-rock spin on the title track from Del Rey’s 2023 album as part of a new appearance on Jo Whiley’s BBC Radio show, Couch Sessions.

The slot came in celebration of their recently released album, ‘Come Ahead’, which arrived last week and marked their first album in eight years – following on from 2016’s ‘Chaosmosis’.

During the live-in-studio performance, the band played five tracks, opening with ‘Love Insurrection’ the lead single from the new record. From there, they broke out their classic hits ‘Movin’ On Up’, ‘Rocks’ and a cover of the Bruce Reitherman, Louis Prima, and Phil Harris song ‘I Wan’na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)’.

It was at the end of the set, however, when the band brought out an intriguing cover of the 2023 Lana Del Rey song to close out the appearance. During the rendition, Primal Scream put a slight glam-rock tint on the original track, and enlisted some gospel-inspired backing singers to help with those high notes.

Around the time of its release last week, NME gave Primal Scream’s 11th studio album a glowing four-star review. In it, the band were praised for integrating “a whole lot of funk on its surface but still pack[ing] oodles of punk and grenades of protest in its trunk.”

Around the same time, Gillespie and producer David Holmes spoke to NME about the inspiration for the record, with the latter saying: “We were feeling our way through it. We’re excited by the same things, and one thing we’re excited about is people telling the truth – on a piece of music that you could put on at a dinner party! ‘Cause it’s got a joyfulness to it, but when you zone in closer, it’s actually saying something that needs to be said.”

Meanwhile, Primal Scream recently announced a 2025 UK and Ireland headline tour in support of the album, and been confirmed for a gig in London in support of Gaza. You can purchase any remaining tickets here.
