The Disco Biscuits kicked off their New Year’s Eve run a New York’s Palladium Time Square last night. Though this is the first time the group has performed at the venue under its current name and ownership, the quartet has headlined at the space—formerly known as the Nokia, Best Buy and Playstation Theater—more than any other club.

Fittingly, the night opened with “Time Square,” a 2022 original from the group’s forthcoming “Space Opera.” From there, the band offered an extended, seamless set that includedSpacebirdmatingcall,” “Portal To An Empty Head,” “Twisted in the Road,” the debut of “Dino Baby” and then the end of “Spacebirdmatingcall.” “Dino Baby” is another new original written with band friend Joey Friedman.

The group’s second set was also one long, extended segment that moved from “Rock Candy” into “Above The Waves,” “Falling,” “The Great Abyss,” “M1,” “Gangster” and then back into “Rock Candy.” “Falling” is from guitarist Jon Gutwillig and keyboardist Aron Magner’s new musical based on the Biscuits’ rock opera “The Hot Air Balloon,” which Barber said was one of their best received new songs this year.

An encore of “42” closed the late-night performance. Disco Biscuits will perform at Philadelphia’s Franklin Music Hall Saturday. Like The Palladium, they have performed at the space a record number of times when it was known as the Electric Factory but have yet to return under its current moniker.
