After officially commencing their New Year’s Eve run at The Fillmore in Silver Springs, Md., on Dec. 27 and following up the next night at the same venue with an onslaught of nonstop entertainment, Disco Biscuits stepped away from the stage on Sunday night, saving strength for their Monday arrival at Philadelphia’s Fillmore location. Last night’s return allowed the band to flex their chops across two sets of amalgamated and improvisational-heavy material. Of importance, during set two, Bisco dusted off “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” for the first time since their 2022 NYE run.

The band emerged on The Fillmore stage in their native Philadelphia and stepped into song on “Reactor.” The group stretched their interplay of instrumentals with grandiose displays provided by Aron Magner, bassist Marc Brownstein, guitarist Jon Gutwillig, and percussionist Allen Aucoin, flooding the night’s start, which merged into “Caves of the East.” From the depth of their discography, The Disco Biscuits went with their 2024 debut, “Country Royale,” next, performing the newer number for only the 11th time in front of a live audience–before they eventually arrived back at “Reactor,” evoking parts of the song as set one’s send-off.

Upon their return to the stage for the latter portion of the concert, Bisco turned up the heat with the arrival of “Crickets” merged with the first “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” since 2022, effectively ending a 154 performance gap. The latter broke up “Crickets,” which resumed after the bust out. Without pause, another 2024 debut emerged, this time “Risky Business,” performed for only the eighth time on the live stage.

Sans a break for applause, action ensued on “Photograph” and its follow-up, “Also Sprach Zarathustra: Sunrise.” For the night’s encore, Bisco returned to the stage to the call of the crowd, unleashing “And The Ladies Were The Rest Of The Night,” which featured a “Changes” jam.

On December 31, Disco Biscuits will return to their hometown venue, where they will welcome the New Year at midnight. Tickets remain on sale.
