Drake Taps Morgan Wallen to Open ‘You Broke My Heart’ Video
Drake surprises fans with a music video for ‘You Broke My Heart’ featuring an unexpected cameo from country singer Morgan Wallen.
On Wednesday, December 20, Drake treated fans to a Christmas surprise, dropping a new music video for “You Broke My Heart,” from the deluxe edition of his eighth studio album, For All the Dogs.
The video opens with an unexpected cameo from country star Morgan Wallen, seen accompanying Drake in a restaurant where the pair share a toast to the rapper’s recent breakup.
But as the duo leave the restaurant to get into a car together, the car suddenly bursts into flames, thanks to two women — dancers Grace Matthews and Taylor Morris — who spend the rest of the video celebrating.
Wallen’s cameo is surprising, and not because of his and Drake’s genre differences. Backlash has punctuated Wallen’s rise to country stardom between his partying during the pandemic and cancelling concerts at the last minute — but he was suspended by his record label in 2021 when a video surfaced of him casually using the N-word.
Still, this isn’t the first time Drake has collaborated with a controversial figure. The Toronto native has received his fair share of backlash for his work with Chris Brown, a figure with a known history of abuse and assault. Drake also worked with NBA player Tristan Thompson last year, who is perhaps better known for repeatedly cheating on Khloe Kardashian than for his athletic acumen.
“You Broke My Heart” is the latest music video Drake has dropped since he released For All the Dogs in October, and its extended Scary Hours Edition in November, featuring six additional tracks. “First Person Shooter” features a guest appearance from J. Cole, while Lil Yachty appears in “Another Late Night.”
Morgan Wallen has expressed his interest in hip-hop as a fan, and he’s also no stranger to the genre despite his country roots, having reached No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart for his collaboration with Lil Durk, “Broadway Girls.” Recently, he was also part of a crossover at the CMA Awards when he and Hardy were joined by Post Malone during a tribute to Joe Diffie.
