Eggy and Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country Collide on the Road, Mark Night One of Hanukkah and More

On Thursday, Dec. 7, Eggy and Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country teamed up for a co-headlining appearance at Rockefellers in Houston. During the jammed-out presentation, the bands worked through a series of songs, including a seasonal tease of “Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel” during the Eggy original, “Letter To Myself.” 

The night commenced with “One Stop Shop,” a song from Eggy’s archive, and continued the theme on “Broken Bluff” and “Backyard Bear” before moving into a rendition of Punch Brothers’ “My Oh My.” Next, they added a partial play of “12 Pounds of Rain,” which merged into “My Oh My.” The aforementioned material arrived before “Hanukkah Banter.” Jake Brownstein lit Mike Goodman’s joint (in lieu of a menorah), which played off the Festival of Lights motif. 

In time, they returned to “Letter To Myself,” which sandwiched “Hanukkah Banter,” featuring the “Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel” tease. Next, the band reprised the Little Feat favorite, “Spanish Moon,” served with notes of Led Zeppelin medley, “The Ocean, Black Dog.” To cap the Lone Star State gig, they closed the night on “Burritos El Chavo 2.” 

Following their Houston appearance, Eggy and Daniel Donato teamed up for another Texas gig, performing at the Mohawk in Austin, Texas, on Dec. 8. The six-song setlist commenced with Eggy’s “Shadow” and continued with originals “Rosetta Stone,” “High Noon” and “Apology.” A highlight for the night included a cover of Crosby, Stills and Nash’s classic “Carry On” with a special tease of The Beatles’ “Smile” and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”

The tour continued on Dec. 10, when the co-headliners arrived in Dallas, Texas, for a Deep Ellum Art Co show. The performance was a cover-heavy affair, which electrified from the start of “Between You and Me.” The musical acts broke into creative renditions from several artists, including Madonna, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and Little Feat.
