On Dec. 31, Eggy took the stage at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club for the grand finale to a year that brought them to new heights of acclaim and artistic achievement. In the second night of their two-show year-end series, the quartet of Jake Brownstein, Dani Battat, Alex Bailey and Mike Goodman welcomed 2025 with a demonstration of their improvisational prowess and ever-mounting discography. Beyond the band’s generally exceptional performances, the evening’s highlight arrived with a sprawling cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Terrapin Station.”

Eggy kicked off their performance with their five-year live staple “Apology,” first released in their Eggy Selects: Spring 2022 Tour collection, which they ornamented with teases of Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed.” The quartet proceeded to build steam with “Backyard Bear,” then merged into their 2022 Nashville Tapes standout Evergreen. After a guns-blazing “High Noon” the band wrapped its first frame with a cover of Emily King’s “Remind Me.”

The Connecticut quartet returned to the stage for its second set with the recently debuted “Woah There,” then kicked off a tremendous four-song medley with longtime fan favorite “Buying Time.” Eggy perfectly merged the 2017 track into “Onitsuka Tiger” before they’d reached its conclusion, then sent Goodman to add an excitingly oddball statement on drones before the countdown to midnight and celebratory passage into 2025. As their first act of the new year, the band tore into the Dead’s “Terrapin Station,” stretching their second-ever treatment of the 1977 classic out to a whopping 27-minutes.

After their transcendent jam centerpiece and homage to their genre’s originators, Eggy concluded their second set with a blissed-out “Smile,” elaborated by quotes from Radiohead’s “Bodysnatchers.” The band set off an encore with the 2019 single “Shadow,” which merged in and out of that formerly omitted conclusion to “Buying Time” in a testament to their meticulous set-crafting and instrumental chops.

Eggy will return to the stage for a two-night stand at Deerfield, Mass.’s Tree House Brewing Company on Jan. 10 and 11. For tickets and more information, visit eggymusic.com/tour.
