Elvis Costello to Revive Early Catalog with “Radio Soul!” Tour in 2025
Nearly five decades since he first took the music world by storm, Elvis Costello is returning to his roots. Today, Dec. 10, the iconic singer-songwriter, producer, author, activist, actor, and more has announced “Radio Soul!: The Early Songs of Elvis Costello,” a summer 2025 tour which will recall his now distant origins. Through 17 stops across the US, Costello will stage longtime favorites from his first 11 albums, reviving and reworking selections spanning from 1977’s My Aim is True to 1986’s Blood & Chocolate alongside The Imposters with Charlie Sexton, giving the classics a final day in the sun before shifting his focus to new material.
“For any songwriter, it has to be a compliment if people want to hear songs written up to fifty years ago,” Costello reflected on the upcoming run. “Among them, ‘Radio Soul,’ the first draft of what eventually became ‘Radio Radio.’”
Costello will embark on his “Radio Soul!” tour with a performance at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo Amphitheatre on June 12, setting off an eight-stop West Coast leg. After subsequent stagings in Portland, Ore. and Reno, Nev., the artist will move on to a four-show stretch in The Golden State, highlighted by sets at San Francisco’s historic The Masonic on June 17 and Los Angeles’ Orpheum on June 21. Costello will close his first leg with a lone Las Vegas showing, assuming the spotlight at Palms Casino Resort’s Pearl Concert Theatre on June 26.
On June 28, Costello and company will move to the Mountain states, beginning with a stand at Beaver Creek, Colo.’s Vilar Performing Arts Center. The band will continue with shows in Denver, Kansas City, Mo., and St. Louis from June 29 to July 3, then arrive in the Southeast for a performance at Nashville, Tenn.’s esteemed Ryman Auditorium on July 5. Following a sidestep to Greenville, S.C. on July 7, Costello and his ensemble will conclude the tour with three nights in The Sunshine State, setting up in St. Petersburg and Fort Myers on July 9 and 10 before a finale at Miami Beach’s Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theatre on July 12.
“You can expect the unexpected and the faithful in equal measure,” Costello noted of the setlist, which promises deep cuts and surprises alongside the essentials that have remained in his repertoire to this day. “Don’t forget this show is “Performed by Elvis Costello & The Imposters,” an ensemble which includes three people who first recorded this music and two more who bring something entirely new. They are nobody’s tribute band.”
The bandleader will be supported by longtime Attractions bandmates Pete Thomas and Steve Nieve (the latter of whom will join Costello for a duo tour in the spring), as well as Cracker’s Davey Faragher and storied guitarist Charlie Sexton. “The Imposters are a living, breathing, swooning, swinging, kicking and screaming rock and roll band who can turn their hands to a pretty ballad when the opportunity arises,” Costello emphasized.
Tickets for “Radio Soul!: The Early Songs of Elvis Costello” will become available tomorrow, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. local through an artist presale, with all remaining stock opening for a general on-sale this Friday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. local. The tour may be fans’ final chance to catch the classics of Costello’s first decade live, as the tireless innovator continues to expand his canon year after year. “If there is an encore and we play, “Farewell, OK”, it probably means some of those “Early Songs” will have been performed in your city for the very last time,” the artist shared in closing. “I don’t want to go back, I want to bring these songs into the present day, once more, in the event they are ever pushed out of the way by the next number that I write.
“You could say time is running out but only time will tell. Don’t be late, the band hits at eight.”
