Episode 149 of The JamBase Podcast, a partner of the Osiris Media Network, features an interview with Son Little. The singer-songwriter spoke with JamBase’s Andy Kahn about his latest album, Like Neptune, which is out now on ANTI- Records.

Son Little (Aaron Livingston) was on tour in Dallas this week when he chatted with Kahn. The interview began with a discussion about the current state of touring and how Little has overcome the challenges that intensified as a result of the pandemic. He recalled his recent tour of Europe and what it was like performing in front of those audiences for the first time in several years.

The interview then turned to Like Neptune, which is Little’s fourth full-length release and the follow-up to 2020’s Aloha. At the start of the pandemic, Little made the first of three trips to “a cabin overlooking the Delaware River in upstate New York” where the album was conceived and its beginnings recorded. Little discussed the impetus for making those retreats, the two albums he listened to while there, and how the quiet of the space influenced the album.

During the pandemic, Little dug into learning the music production platform Ableton, which he broke down in layman’s terms how it’s different from other recording methods. The looping nature of Ableton allowed Little to explore new sounds on Like Neptune including making 30-minute versions of some songs that were edited down for the album.

The interview also touched on the collection of notebooks from his childhood that were discovered by Little and impacted the new record. The notebooks were a mix of journals, other writings and sketches that Little revisited while making Like Neptune.

Other parts of the interview touched on the few guest contributors who appeared on Like Neptune, who is Neptune referenced in the title track, songwriting as a therapeutic process and much more.
