Ex-Slipknot Drummer Jay Weinberg Is Working On A Solo Album
Ousted Slipknot drummer and current Suicidal Tendencies drummer Jay Weinberg has been busy working on new solo music.
The former world’s best metal drummer, now aged 34, has taken to Instagram to reveal that he’s actually been writing and recording his own songs since his early 20’s, and that “One of my ambitions for 2025 is to record more music in the studio”.
“It feels good to finally set the intention of releasing some of this new music in the coming year”
Alongside a rare snap of him from 2017 showing him armed with a guitar instead of a pair of drumsticks, the muso wrote: “Though the phrase ‘New Year’s resolution’ has never really connected with me, I’ve always believed in the power of intention, and following through on setting manageable goals”.
Weinberg went on to explain that he worked on lots of solo music during his Slipknot-era downtime and even put a live band together to play it, describing the project as “awesome” and “a great creative challenge”.
“I haven’t touched these songs since then, until recently feeling inspiration to pick the guitar back up and kick this stuff around again,” he continues. “It’s been a fulfilling experience, and I’ll tell you – I’m starting to like where these songs are headed. It feels good to finally set the intention of releasing some of this new music in the coming year.”
Weinberg joined Slipknot in 2013 following the departure of late founding drummer Joey Jordison, drumming on three of the masked metal masters’ albums – .5: The Grey Chapter (2014), We Are Not Your Kind (2019) and The End, So Far (2022).
He was ousted from the band in late 2023 following a ten year tenure, confessing he was “heartbroken” and “blindsided” by the split.
Meanwhile, Aussie maggots can catch Slipknot live this March, headlining Knotfest 2025 and a one-off sideshow in Adelaide, with new drummer Eloy Casagrande (ex Sepultura) behind the kit.
