Fontaines D.C. team up with Dublin’s Bohemians FC to launch football shirt for Palestine aid

Fontaines D.C. have teamed up with Dublin’s Bohemians FC to launch a new football shirt for Palestine aid – find all the details below.

The band’s logo is emblazoned on the front of the Irish club’s 2025 third alternative jersey – a one-off edition designed by guitarist Carlos O’Connell, in conjunction with Bohemian FC designers.

It follows Fontaines D.C and Boh’s collaborative away shirt, which was launched in 2021 to support a homelessness charity.

Launched today (December 5), the new design will raise funds for Medical Aid For Palestinians (MAP) amid the ongoing Israeli–Palestinian conflict.

A preview video for the latest collaboration is soundtracked by Fontaines’ track ‘Horseness Is The Whatness’ from their latest album ‘Romance’.

The clip draws inspiration from the group’s recent visuals, which feature locations around Dalymount Park – the home of Bohemians FC in the heart of Dublin.

On the shirt itself, a line from ‘Horsenes…’ – “I thought it was love” – is printed around the neck, with the ‘Romance’ colour scheme flowing through the body and sleeve trims. Additionally, an embroidered hem tag features a Palestinian flag with the words “Saoirse don Phalaistín” (Irish language for ‘Free Palestine’).

Fans will have the unique opportunity to be the first to buy the shirts alongside some exclusive items.

To celebrate the launch of the collaboration and Fontaines’ two sold-out shows at Dublin’s 3Arena, the new shirts will be on sale at Dalymount Park this Friday (December 6) and Saturday (7) from 4pm to 6pm.

Here, fans will have the chance to purchase some other exclusive items including “very limited edition Fontaines D.C. scarfs”. Each shirt bought comes with a free limited edition Fontaines D.C. badge too.

The Dublin band are playing in their home city on those same dates as part of their current UK and Ireland ‘Romance’ tour – which featured two gigs at Alexandra Palace in London.

O’Connell explained: “There’s few institutions in this world who stand unyielding against oppression. Bohemian FC is one of them and being a small part of this club has

been an honour for us in FDC for a few years now. We will always stand with them and their values.”

Daniel Lambert, Bohemian FC COO, said: “We are delighted to unveil this jersey following lots of work over the past few months with Fontaines, in particular Carlos as main designer and Trevor Dietz [manager].

“The rise of the band, since their days rehearsing in a garage in Phibsborough and early photoshoots in Dalymount has been spectacular, ‘Romance’ is an album that sits alongside the very best Irish albums of all-time.”

He continued: “Even more impressive is to see them continuously highlight and speak about Palestine to bigger and bigger crowds and be unrelenting in their moral convictions.

“That we can raise further significant funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians through the shirt at such a tragic time once again shows the power of sports and music when combined.”

A description reads: “Profits from the shirt will be sent to Medical Aid for Palestinians to go straight into their emergency response action – for what is most needed at that moment, for example the rehabilitation of Nasser hospital, limb reconstruction, procurement of antibiotics/saline bags/ultrasound gel/intravenous paracetamol/hot meals etc.

“In the past 12 months their Gaza team has sourced and procured over 10million

dollars’ worth of essential supplies and remain one of the last operating INGOs in

Gaza. They have also established 12 medical points in central and southern Gaza,

in collaboration with local partners, and supported the rehabilitation of Nasser

Hospital in Khan Younis.”

Over the summer, Fontaines D.C. donated their $2,000 (£1,565) prize from a viral music quiz to Doctors Without Borders “for Palestine”. The band later cancelled a scheduled show in Istanbul in solidarity with Palestine, saying that they “must be clear in our convictions”.

Frontman Grian Chatten has since explained why the group want to use their platform to speak out during an interview with NME. He spoke about the idea behind the 12″ benefit single Fontaines released with Massive Attack and Young Fathers.

“We asked, ‘What can we do?’,” Chatten recalled. “It becomes incredibly tiring and disenfranchising, not just as a musician but as a young person, to be talking about and raising awareness.

“At some point, you’ve got to do something that feels a bit more tangible, you know? Time is ticking and people are getting beheaded and massacred and so on. It really is the responsibility of the masses, of artists, and anyone with a voice – which is most people nowadays – to do something, say something. Which side are you on?”

O’Connell also read ‘Voices For Gaza’ letters of Palestinians’ war experiences alongside artists such as Brian Eno, former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe and Bastille’s Dan Smith earlier this year.

In other news, Fontaines D.C.’s ‘Romance’ is nominated for Best Rock Album at the Grammys 2025.

Following their current tour, the band are set to play huge outdoor gigs in London, Manchester, Newcastle and Cardiff in 2025. They were confirmed for next year’s TRNSMT Festival too earlier this week. Fontaines D.C. will embark on a US headline tour in the spring.
