Goose Christen First European Tour with “Me & My Uncle” in Paris

Last night, Goose brought their sound overseas to Europe for the first time ever. The quintet’s live sound was received by a sold-out crowd of Parisians at La Maroquinerie in Paris. To the delight of the Europeans and committed fans who traveled over the Atlantic to see the band, Goose, in a nod to the jamband who paved the way for them in ’72, popped the show off with a bust-out of John Philips’ “Me & My Uncle.”
After the beloved, twangy and steady cover Rick Mitarotonda (vocals, guitar), Peter Anspach (vocals, keys, guitar), Trevor Weekz (bass), Ben Atkind (drums), and Jeff Arevalo (vocals, percussion, drums) leaned into their own rhythm giving a slow melodic version of “All I Need.” After the two introductory songs, the band showcased American improvision to the City of Lights by pairing “Mr. Action” > “The Whales.” After this improvisational vehicle, they offered another by moving from “Turbulence & The Night Rays” into “Drive” and then “Bon Don” back into “Drive,” which brought the set to a close.
The second, comprised of just four songs, made for more breathing space and larger sweeping displays of their compositions. They began with “Madhuvan,” which stretched out over the venue via beautifully layered piano and guitar. The cool and fluid exploration gave onlookers to appreciate the artistry taking place, and it remained on display as Goose moved from “Red Bird” into, perhaps, a nod to home “A Western Sun.” The set was brought to a close with their uplifting Vasudo original “The Empress Of Organos.”
With stops in Cologne, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, and Brussels along with shows in Glasgow, Machester, Bristol and finally, London there was no encore, but a lot more music to come.
