Goose Teases New Music with Cryptic Social Posts

Something new appears to be coming from Goose. Since Sunday, Jan. 28, the band has been issuing daily cryptic videos via social media. Ranging from 40 seconds to a minute and a half, these updates feature clips from unreleased new music overlaid against abstract, psychedelic textures; each is marked with a unique, blink-and-you-miss-it glyph. More transparently, the band posted a single image to its Twitter feed on Jan. 29, etched with a date: “2.6.24.”

While much is still unknown about these teases, the content grants a vague impression of what sounds to expect on the group’s next offering. Each clip posted thus far exhibits a section from the middle of a song, ranging from live-wire cosmic riffs to tight, contemplative jams. Notably, none of the posts feature Rick Mitarotronda’s vocals. These selections appear to continue on the trail blazed by the group’s most recent EP Autumn Crossing, particularly “Travelers II,” shifting further from traditional song structures to favor expansive, fusion-inflected explorations.

These posts shortly follow Goose’s Dec. 22 announcement of drummer and founding member Ben Atkind’s departure from the group. Atkind performed during the Goosemas 2023 show on December 8-9, and the band is expected to announce a replacement prior to its headliner performance at Solshine: A Music & Arts Reverie on May 24-26. Read on to view Goose’s latest psychedelic omens.
