Grammy Awards Chief Discusses Marilyn Manson Nomination

The metal artist is facing a number of abuse claims…

Grammy Awards chief Harvey Mason Jr. has commented on Marilyn Manson’s nomination.

The metal artist is facing a number of historic abuse claims, with four lawsuits being launched in the past 12 months.

Claims made by former partner Evan Rachel Wood have been echoed by a number of other women, with Rolling Stone recently running a long-read on the allegations against Marilyn Manson.

In spite of this, Kanye West still invited Marilyn Manson to be part of his ‘Donda’ album – indeed, Marilyn Manson appeared at the final album playback event.

Nominated for Album Of The Year at the Grammy awards, Marilyn Manson has been honoured for his work as songwriter and producer.

Speaking to the Wrap, The Recording Academy’s CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said the Grammys “won’t restrict the people who can submit their material for consideration.”

He continued: “We won’t look back at people’s history, we won’t look at their criminal record, we won’t look at anything other than the legality within our rules of, is this recording for this work eligible based on date and other criteria. If it is, they can submit for consideration.”

However he pointed out: “What we will control is our stages, our shows, our events, our red carpets. We’ll take a look at anyone who is asking to be a part of that, asking to be in attendance, and we’ll make our decisions at that point. But we’re not going to be in the business of restricting people from submitting their work for our voters to decide on.”

Elsewhere on the Grammy nomination list, disgraced comedian Louis CK was nominated for Best Comedy Album.
