Grammy Cancellations Continue: WMG, Sony, BMG Cancelling All Grammy Parties Following UMG’s Move
The Grammy Awards are still set to take place on February 2, but the three major labels have cancelled their Grammy week events. Here’s the latest.
Despite the deadly wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles area, the 2025 Grammy Awards are still slated to take place on February 2. But most of the events and parties related to the Grammys have been cancelled.
Universal Music Group announced Monday that all its Grammy-related events — including the artist showcase and the afterparty — had been cancelled. The company, headquartered in Santa Monica, where its employees living in nearby Palisades were hit particularly hard by the wildfires, said it would be redirecting resources to aid wildfire relief efforts.
Now, other major labels are following suit. Sony Music Entertainment has called off its Grammy afterparty, and will instead redirect funds to focus on Los Angeles relief efforts. Warner Music Group did the same, as did BMG with their pre-Grammy party.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and we extend our deepest gratitude to the firefighters and first responders in Los Angeles County who are working tirelessly to contain the fires,” said BMG in a statement.
Further, the Resonator Awards, which recognizes female producers and engineers, and Milk and Honey Management both announced their Grammy week events at postponed.
Notably, MusiCares’ Person of the Year pre-Grammy event will still honor The Grateful Dead on January 31 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. But the night will include “a special appeal for donations to support wildfire relief efforts,” the Recording Academy told members in an email on Tuesday. The Clive Davis pre-Grammy gala, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is also still on, according to sources close to the matter.
The 2025 Grammy Awards will air live on CBS from the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. Beyoncé leads the charge with 11 nominations, while Kendrick Lamar, Charli XCX, and Billie Eilish are all up for seven awards. Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan follow close behind with six nominations.
